PHYSICAL EDUCATION

In Bangor Township Schools, Physical Education is a sequential, developmentally appropriate educational program that provides students with the knowledge, skills, fitness, and attitudes necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle.The goal of Bangor Township Schools is to support students in becoming physically educated people who participate in health enhancing physical activity: • demonstrate competence in selected motor skills; • assesse, achieve, and maintain physical fitness; • apply cognitive concepts in making wise lifestyle choices; and • exhibit appropriate personal-social character traits while participating in physical activity.

HEALTH

Bangor Township Schools follows The Michigan Model for Health™ Curriculum. This is a comprehensive, skills-based health education curriculum with the primary goal of helping young people live happier and healthier lives. This nationally recognized curriculum is research based, and aligned to standards. Teachers follow the sequential lesson plans and build the knowledge and skills students need to be successful in school and in life. Using a building-block approach to health education, the Michigan Model for Health™addresses the major youth health risk behaviors at every grade level, with age-appropriate instructional activities.

Technology

At Bangor Township Schools, our technology classes strive to equip our students with the skills they need to be successful 21st century learners.  Our goal is to encourage student voice and exploration, by helping our students become empowered learners and digital citizens.  Our curriculum teaches students skills with Google Apps for Education, including Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides.  Additional advanced software features are taught at the high school level in order to help prepare students for college and entering the workforce. Students are also introduced to keyboarding and STEM concepts through a K-12 robotics program.  Bangor Township Schools is also proud to offer online learning opportunities through a blended learning environment, facilitated by a certified teacher, using Edgenuity Software. World Language

Bangor Township Schools provides the opportunity for students to learn French and/or Spanish with multiple course offerings ranging from sixth grade exploratory to upper-level advanced language studies.  Emphasis is placed on speaking, reading, and writing in efforts to give students a global perspective. An integral part of the curriculum is cultural awareness through cross-cultural celebrations and project-based learning. 

Music

Bangor Township Schools strives to develop high level, well rounded musicians and appreciators of music.  Through the pillars of creation, performance, and analysis of all musical styles, our students gain cultural awareness and deep understanding of music.  Through ensemble building, students develop key teamwork skills, camaraderie, self-esteem building, as well as self discipline.  With the choice of either the instrumental or vocal disciplines, students develop mastery of tone quality, pitch & rhythm elements, diction/articulation, interpretation, and presentation of music.  Students have the opportunity to be  immersed in music each and every year K-12.  High level musicians have the opportunity to showcase their talents outside of the school at competitions/festivals.

Visual Arts

Greetings and welcome to the art department.   The art department is a dynamic “hands-on” learning environment.  Learning together, students and teacher will explore visual arts. Much of the learning will be student driven, with the teacher facilitating the learning process.   Art class is an essential component of the educational experience.  Students will develop skills in problem solving, collaboration, innovation, and production.  Students will be developing skills they need to be successful in the emerging “Conceptual Age”.

  • Learning to control various art mediums, students will develop fine motor skills. This is often referred to as mastering technique.  

  • Students will learn to think for themselves.

  • Students will be creative and innovative.  

  • Students must be determined.  Students discover that they must revise, and in some cases, restart their work, to achieve their desired outcome.  

Theatre

The Bangor Township Performing Arts program Improvisation, script analysis, monologues and playscript scenes are used to introduce students to the fundamentals of theatre performance. Special emphasis is placed on interpretation and analysis of the dramatic script as the basis for creative exploration of literary and dramatic analysis.

Y5-12 Special Areas Overview

Bangor Central - Bangor Lincoln - Bangor West - Christa McAuliffe Middle School - John Glenn High School

K-5: students rotate through 3 "Specials" classes in a school year, 1 per trimester; Technology, Music, and Library/Media.

6-12: students explore many special areas of interest in their "Core Plus" classes.
