ELA

Bangor Township Schools provides students in grades 6-8 ELA instruction using a workshop model of instruction based on the MAISA Units for reading and writing. Students keep a writing notebook as they produce writing pieces in the genres of narrative, informational, and persuasive writing. They also keep a reading notebook based around developing skills in independent, narrative, and informational reading. In addition, students utilize technology as they learn effective researching strategies and participate in student centered activities that promote higher level thinking....

MATH

Bangor Township Schools provides students in grades 6-8 math instruction using the Big Ideas Math program. Big Ideas Math is a research-based curriculum providing a rigorous, focused, and coherent curriculum for middle school and high school students. The program follows a balanced instructional approach, balancing conceptual understanding with procedural fluency.  Students are engaged in activities using the mathematical practices based on multiple intelligences, learning styles, and multicultural education. Lessons and activities are in the form of standards based learning projects and interpersonal models for cooperative learning. CMMS is proud to off an Honors' Pathway of 6th Grade Advanced Math, 7th Grade Accelerated Math, and 8th Grade Algebra.

SCIENCE

Bangor Township Schools provides students in grades 6-8 science instruction using the MI-STAR Integrated Science Curriculum. Next Generation Science Standards and engineering practices are embedded into the MI-STAR program. The integrated science curriculum presents earth, life, and physical science concepts. Hands­ on activities in the laboratory, class discussion, individual and group projects and activities provide students opportunities to investigate science topics of relevance to their own lives and build understanding of essential learning in science. MI-STAR is aligned with state and national science standards and assessments, uses a problem-based approach to stimulate students’ interest, and demonstrates how science and engineering are used to develop new knowledge and innovative solutions to contemporary problems. 

SOCIAL STUDIES

Bangor Township Schools provides students in grades 6-8 social studies instruction in World Geography, World History, and US History. In grade 6, students examine the geography, economics, culture, and government of representative countries of the world. The 7th grade social studies curriculum focuses on ancient world history and geography with a deliberate focus on the content literacy. In 8th grade, students enhance their understanding of the United States from before the contact with Native Americans through Reconstruction after the Civil War. The 8th grade curriculum adds to the prior knowledge students gained from the study of United States history in 5th grade and the study of the Ancient World grades 6 and 7, CMMS is proud to offer 7th Grade Honors World History, 8th Grade Honors US History.

INTERVENTIONS

Bangor Township Schools provides qualifying students with intervention in the areas of ELA and math. ELA intervention is provided within the regular school day as an additional section on the schedule.

Students qualifying for intervention in the area of math receive support during their FLEX time on their schedule. Both Delta Math and Moby Max are used to support the individual needs of each student. The support they receive mirrors the concepts they are learning in their regular math class and therefore enhances their level of understanding.
