Instructional Services
At Bangor Township Schools, we respect the individual needs of all our students and believe that with the right guidance and direction, they can all succeed. Our educational structure allows us to differentiate instruction; providing challenging curriculum for those students have met proficiency and intervention for those who need additional support.
ELA
Bangor Township Schools provides students 90 minutes of reading instruction daily. BTS uses a Reading Workshop approach which allows teachers to provide differentiated instruction to small groups of students at their instructional reading level. BTS uses Benchmark Literacy & MAISA writing units to instruct in narrative, informational, and persuasive writing
MATH
Bangor Township Schools teaches the Michigan State Standards using Math Expressions by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Students receive a at least a 60 minute block of math instruction as well as WIN (What I Need) time to challenge our advanced students and provide intervention to our struggling students.
SCIENCE
Bangor Township Schools is part of a partnership with Central Michigan University's "Phenomenal Science" Project. We have expert teachers who have been dedicated to writing curriculum to be piloted across the state. Our Phenomenal Science curriculum is based on the Michigan Science Standards and has it's foundation in inquiry.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Bangor Township Schools teaches the Michigan Social Studies Standards using the Michigan Open Book Project and PASST.
MTSS
Bangor Township Schools incorporates the MTSS or Multi Tiered Systems of Support structure to meet the needs of our students in both academics and behavior. Several assessments are utilized to determine areas of student need. Qualifying students are provided intervention in the area of reading or math and work with a certified teacher during WIN time throughout the day. Interventions provide direct, explicit instruction directed at increasing skills levels by actively involving the student.
